Supporting mental health

We are very aware that the last 18 months has been particularly challenging for children and young people.

The pandemic has had a significant impact on children’s mental health. Throughout the last three months we have been working with Invictus Wellbeing Foundation to deliver a series of confidence boosting courses, using climbing as the catalyst.

We have seen great results with 60 children engaging in our fun filled taster sessions over the holidays and 20 of them going on to our NICAS level 1 climbing course.

We now have 16 young people qualified in NICAS level 1 which is a fantastic achievement!

In the coming weeks we will be developing our mental health programme in Calderdale and Kirklees and we are keen to work with schools to do this.

We want to provide a series of bespoke taster sessions and development courses for children aged between 12 and 17 who have identified as struggling with their mental health.

The activity will be delivered within school term time and geared towards boosting confidence, helping young people to challenge themselves, rely on peer support and overcome obstacles.

Watch how we support disabled children to reach for the sky

Our mission is to ‘Engage, Empower and Inspire’ this has been particularly prevalent in supporting disabled children into climbing.

This film charts the journey through one of our Climbing for All sessions at ROKT.  In partnership with Calderdale Dis Sports, our specialist courses, equipment and trained staff build up the skills and confidence of our youngsters with learning and physical disabilities.

The course gives these incredible kids the chance to go higher than they ever thought possible.

If there’s a barrier, we’ll climb it!

Thanks to Boshier Hinton Foundation for funding to support specialist training by ROKKA project and Calderdale Disability Sports for this amazing partnership.
