Activities at ROKT Foundation

ROKT Foundation is a unique charity and one of the only in the UK with climbing and urban activity at the heart of what it does – change lives for the better.

Since launching in 2019, our charity has helped thousands of children, young people and adults with a range of challenges including mental health issues, physical and learning disabilities – and more.

The approach is always the same. Our team and partners help take people higher and further than they thought possible through bouldering, rope climbing, caving, harness swings and abseils.

Activities and events take place at ROKT Urban Activity Centre in Brighouse and the great Yorkshire outdoors.

How our courses work

Most programmes and experiences are delivered in partnership with other providers and charities who are experts in their field.

That means our partners help find people who need that specific support the most and working together, we deliver each programme of activity in a pre-booked format (no drop-ins).

It sees us undertake our ground-breaking work on specific courses, for example blending mental health support sessions with rope climbing and police intervention work with bouldering. Just to name a few.

Bookable courses

We also run courses – often free – that eligible people can apply to take part in.

Eligibility depends on the nature of the course, the funding requirements and the area of Yorkshire it covers.

A great example is our sell-out Moving Through Menopause courses which can be applied for directly rather than through a referral like much of our work.

What’s here?

Climbing without ropes, problem solving and for any ability – that’s bouldering. Build confidence on the traverse wall, take on the cave and test yourself in the main chamber. Kids will learn that it’s not all about strength – it’s about   technique and problem solving. Bouldering is the ultimate physical mindfulness experience, completely concentrating the body and mind.

Rope climbing like nowhere else. Built inside a former flour mill, children and adults will experience the thrill and adrenaline-pumping excitement of indoor rope climbing with our expert instructors. They can work their way 21.5m up Yorkshire’s highest indoor lead climbing wall or take our four 16m silo rope climbs. Climbing’s a great way to explore positive fear, overcome challenges and help to develop peer support skills. Our ultimate experience will enable visitors to translate this into their everyday lives.

Kids and adults will get the opportunity to defeat the darkness, conquer tight spaces and build new found confidence after taking on our indoor caving system inside ROKT. They will support their teammates as they wind their way through the labyrinth and emerge feeling epic with an enhanced sense of camaraderie. High capacity, low queue time and easy exits mean everyone can take part and go as far as they can.

Grab a helmet, climb the stairs to the top of the building, strap in and…drop! They will take the fastest and most exciting route from the top of ROKT Urban Adventure Centre to the bottom the fun way with an abseil down the spine of the atmospheric building. Indoor, secure and absolutely unforgettable. One
to talk about when they get back to school or work for days, weeks and years.

We’re also home to ROKTFACE – the UK’s highest outdoor man-made climbing wall. AS seen on TV, we have routes of 28m and 36m when fully open. This is a favourite for community groups, out of school groups and charity climbs so get in touch to enquire about booking.

Schools, team building & parties

We offer a limited, highly popular number of slots for schools visits, team building and group party opportunities featuring all the experiences above plus escape rooms if you want to bolt that on. We even have a party/food room plus space for conferencing, team games and activities. Interested? Drop us a line.

Sensory space

In 2023 we launched our fantastic new sensory space for children and young adults go if they feel overwhelmed when visiting us. We don’t want anything to be a barrier, so if someone wants to give climbing a go, but needs that space to help them achieve that, we’ve got it covered.
